Web9 Mar 2006 · So far I've removed the push-in rocker studs and tapped the heads for screw-in studs but I want to machine the valve guides for more clearance to make room for my cam before sending them to the shop to get the valve seats enlarged for 2.02/1.6's and a thorough cleaning. Web1 Feb 2005 · You will have to pull the studs out, and tap the holes with a good starter tap, then a good bottom tap to clean them up. -The super tricky part is actually cutting good threads and having all 8 on the head in good alignment. Definitely a low-buck, second rate alternative to doing it right, but once in a while it turns out right.

The rocker will bind on the taper just before the bolt when you go to install the rockers. So you have to lower the whole assembly to get the proper clearance under the rocker.
